my dog finally slept through the night

Hey [FORMATTED_FIRST_NAME GOES HERE] - A few weeks ago, Burt and I were driving from Pittsburgh to Cape Cod, right in the middle of peak leaf season. I booked a quaint bed and breakfast in Connecticut because I thought it would feel like we were in Gilmore Girls. (spoiler: no Lorelai at check-in ☕️) Despite the lovely setting, I braced for a terrible night’s sleep. Burt never settles in new places — he paces and pants all night. But this time, I remembered something pianist Lisa Spector told me this summer: treat calming music like a prescription for anxious dogs. Listen together for ten minutes a day, and don't miss a dose. So while my boyfriend Michael was in the shower, I played some of Lisa's music for dogs on Spotify, sat with Burt on his bed, and pet him until he settled. That night, he slept. Deeply. Peacefully. Every time I woke up expecting to hear him pacing around, he was just… snoring next to me. I realized that intentionally listening to music together helped Burt feel safe. And it wasn’t complicated at all. If your dog struggles to settle or relax, music can do more than fill the silence. It can lower cortisol, slow their heart rate, and strengthen the bond you share. 🎧 Listen to the new episode → Sound Enrichment for Dogs: Scientifically Proven Calming Music + More Find Episode 5 wherever you listen: xo Tori + Burt Here's Burt after that good night's sleep! He needed the rest because we had an adventure-filled day with waterfalls, covered bridges and pumpkin ice cream! P.S. Want to know which music genre dogs found most calming in a 2017 study? I share that surprising answer in this episode around minute 7. Psst... Have a minute? The best place to leave a review for the show is Apple Podcasts!
